Lots of dogs in NYC… I guess people need someone to be close to, someone to touch and be touched by.
When I look at this picture, I see a kid. Eyes full of wonder: understanding the situation is beyond him… I have even noticed that the world is a blur of everything/nothing for a kid/dog/cat.
A story comes to mind: a friend of mine, transformational coach like myself, was driving from South Carolina to New Jersey to lead a seminar. her car broke down.
She pulled over and opened the hood. She looked inside, and all she could see is grayish stuff. Pretty woman stuck on the side of the road? One motorist after the other stopped and asked if they could help.
One looked under the hood and said smartly: it must be your carburetor. Carburetor? she said, wondering where that might be.
The guy helpfully pointed at a rounded hill inside the mess. She carefully said: Carburetor. The guy nodded, but left, unable to help.
Another driver suggested the alternator… and the same scenario played itself again. At the end of that she saw, under the hood, a lot of gray stuff, a carburetor and an alternator.
Looking through a dog’s eyes you probably see a lot of gray stuff, food, a place to pee, your owner, and that’s it. That gray thing with the flashing thing is just part of the gray stuff… the undifferentiated everything/nothing out there.
