Confiscated Purses… A Missed Photo Moment

[audio:100908.mp3]
A lot of funny things happen when you’re out on the streets. A photographer always told me many years ago sometimes something so exciting happens, you’re caught up in the moment and you don’t even use your camera. This probably happened to me about 10 times. It happened today.

These illegal purse people – they have rooms on top of buildings where they keep all their purses. And the Africans and Chinese – they bring the customers up there, they make the sale. So, right next to the store – I’m on 31st Street – they have one of those.

So there I am, out there, taking pictures, a white van pulls up. I didn’t even notice it and I should because it’s pretty much the same white van. The side door opens up, five guys get out – these are not cops, not marshals. They’re hired by the bag companies – Chanel or Louis Vuitton or whatever. They run upstairs and they confiscate everything.

It’s kind of against the law or it’s illegal, I don’t know what it is. But it happened so quickly, I’m just so amazed. I didn’t take a picture. That happens every once in a while here in the city. It’s something so exciting, it’s just breezy and you’re just so amazed watching it.

Anyway, that’s what happened. Signing off.
