First of all, I want to apologize about the last blog. It was kind of boring. Every night isn’t super exciting but I did forget a lot of things about last night. 42nd Street, 1988-89 – I was there on the store. I did a lot of photography on the streets. This is when 42nd was 42nd, pickpockets right in front of you, big drug deals, people falling off buildings – I mean, I’ve seen it all there. Now, it’s like Disneyland compared to what it used to be.

But one thing I noticed when I was photographing – everybody is smiling, everyone is happy. I guess a lot of them there, it was their first time going on 42nd Street in Manhattan. The neon light, the glitter, it’s incredible, it’s so overwhelming and everyone’s just walking around looking from left to right, looking up. Everyone is just so excited. So I guess I’ve photographed a lot of happy people yesterday.

Getting back to the party I went to. This is an interesting hotel, they have this big living room set up and this outdoor roof – patio thing or whatever and it’s like a couch for three, a couch for three, a couch for two and the place gets crowded with these little different groups of people are sitting there.

I was sitting with my lawyer friend and my Indonesian friend and her friend from Indonesia and they were all sitting there and people across from us and before you know it, everyone start talking to everyone and we had like a little party in the party. Of course, I was telling them I’m from Portraits of New York and I’m photographing people and doing my thing but everyone was like all contributing to these conversations. It was fun. It was a little different than usual and I had a good time.

Signing off.
