Rock and Soul, Street Folios, 7th Avenue and 38th Street electronics

Saturday night at my house is a ritual – me and the boys, we get Chinese food and rent some kind of a good new movie. I just got to make sure the I get home 10 o’clock tonight. We do this from 10 to 12.

Anyway, what I want to talk about today – what I like to call street folios. That’s when I stop somebody on the street and explain to them we’re from Portraits of New York, we’re covering this corner today, you look amazing, your dress or your earrings or your cool pants or your both – whatever it is, that looks really cool to me. I know it’s special to them and I really act like I like it and I usually do. And they’re very excited that someone’s stopping them to photograph them.

This works eight out of ten times. It could be a couple. It could be this gorgeous gay guy. It could be super sexy women. Whatever it is, I’m getting very good at stopping people on the street. I’ve done it on and off for years but I hate to brag. But I think I’m becoming a master at it. The gift of gab is kicking in, all eight pistons.

The reason why I do this is because of course it’s for the site but it’s a way for me to give somebody a card and explain to them what we’re doing and they always say something, “Wow that sounds like a great idea.” I don’t listen to what they say. I look at their expression that they’re really excited that someone’s taking their picture and they’re going to be on Portraits of New York. This is something that is good. I think I’m doing it between 15 and 25 times a day. Beside me just snapping people on pictures.

Today is going to be different. I’m going to be on 38th Street on 7th Avenue, a place called Rock and Soul, the professional DJ store for 25 years. They have an electronics store in the front. I’ll be working for this gentleman today and tomorrow. I like this moving around. There are no purse people, there are no Chinese massage parlors. Straight tourists – that’s the avenue, 7th Avenue by Macy’s, action packed.

Signing off.
